All the fun of the circus for YWPWI

The group meeting was a great success Marsha and Wendy in the floral and Jean Ball for craft and handicraft.

AS Yellowwood Park Women’s Institute (YWPWI) really hit the jackpot for its 46th birthday this year, members should hold their breath for the 50th.

President Vanessa Wilesmith welcomed all executive members and delegates from the Southern Hills Group, even from as far afield as Bridgevale.

A big welcome was extended to all the many friends and guests.

After the Mary Stewart Collect, the day commenced with raffles as there were so many. Lots of birthday cards were read out and good wishes. Vanessa then gave the domestic news and thanked all for working at Meals on Wheels, the Outspan and Botanic Gardens. YWPWI received thank you letters from the SPCA at Toti and for its donation to Evelyn House.

Birthday members were Jean Donkin, Caryl Howard, Elaine de Jager, Marsha Hart and Angela Peters. Snacks for September will be Gerda, Sharon and Sheila, while the sales table will be Caryl, Jan and Angela. It was fortunate that Elaine de Jager was present, as members were able to hand over a good number of gloves for the Seafarers Mission. The group meeting was a great success, Marsha and Wendy in the floral and Jean Ball for craft and handicraft. The Kombat Fair was a great success and thanks to all who assisted.

Judge Linda Melson is off to Congress and she and all other delegates are wished the very best.

More raffles were called and then it was on with the snacks, hot dogs, ice cream and candy floss. Linda Melson made the birthday cake and cut it. Thank you to Linda. It was then time for the prize giving with the assistance of executive member Maureen Lavis. Many names will sound familiar.

President’s award went to Mary Rust. Thank you all members but how about giving these members some competition next year?

The party was really a great success and everyone dressed accordingly, as clowns, monkeys, gorillas, funny faces – the lot. The WI even had its own photographer taking photos. Those will no doubt be hilarious. The evening ended with the women’s institute prayer.

Most unfortunately there was one very bad downside and that is that Hazel Deme, one of the judges, fell outside the hall and very seriously hurt her hip and has been hospitalised. Everyone is thinking of you Hazel, take good care of yourself.
