Vigilance training puts women through their paces
Brighton Beach police equip women with safety training.
Brighton Beach SAP and Park Patrol Security Services did their bit for Women’s Month on Friday, 15 August through a vigilance training workshop for women.
Brighton Beach SAP communications officer Captain Louise Le Roux taught attendees observation, vigilance and self-defence techniques, use of the body as an ‘alarm system’ when under attack, safe use of pepper spray and safety guidelines on hijacking prevention.
“Women form part of the vulnerable groups in our communities, as they are seen as the weaker sex, and are therefore predominantly targeted when it comes to hijacking, robbery, theft by snatching and sexual violation. Those who attended the vigilance training were empowered on how to react during an unforeseen attack on them and how to evade dangerous situations,” said Cpt Le Roux.
She thanks Park Patrol for sponsoring the training packs, which included a women’s safety brochure, fridge magnet with emergency numbers, a safety whistle, pepper spray and night light key ring.
“Brighton Beach SAP welcomes partnering initiatives which can help us condition and empower women within communities,” she said.
