This is Ramsamy’s fourth year winning the provincial unit award.
A MONTCLAIR police officer has been rewarded for his efforts in recovering stolen vehicles.
Warrant Officer Ganas ‘Tiger’ Ramsamy received the provincial unit award for the highest amount of vehicle recoveries in the 2013-2014 financial year on Wednesday, 3 September. The officer, better known to his colleagues as Tiger, recovered about 600 vehicles. “I feel proud for winning the award. We have a dedicated team who perform well at all hours,” said Ramsamy.
The 49-year-old joined has been in command of the provincial task team since joining in 2012. This is Ramsamy’s fourth year winning the provincial unit award. In 2012, Ramsamy won the Mayor’s award for crime prevention in the eThekwini Municipality.
Ramsamy completed his police training at Wentworth Training College and joined Montclair SAPS. He has been with Montclair SAPS for 15 years. “I have been a victim of crime myself. I always put the victim first and put myself in their position,” he said. Ramsamy says his favourite aspect of his work with the provincial task team is tracking a vehicle in motion.
Communications commander at Montclair SAPS, Lt Jojozi, has high praise for his colleague. “Tiger works around the clock. He is hard working and needs to be commended for his efforts,” said Lt Jojozi.
Ramsamy says his family are very supportive of his career. “I don’t enjoy it when work is quiet. I prefer to stay busy”. Tiger will represent KZN at the national unit awards on Friday, 3 October in Pretoria. When Tiger isn’t recovering cars and fighting crime, he enjoys fishing.
