THE eThekwini Municipality urges residents to take precautionary measures following a Level 2 impact-based warning for damaging winds issued by the South African Weather Service for parts of KZN, including eThekwini.

The warning is in effect today (September 14) from 08:00 to 23:59. According to eThekwini Municipality, a strong high-pressure system is expected to generate strong northerly to north-easterly winds, reaching average speeds of 35 to 40km/h with gusts of up to 80km/h.

Safety precautions

• Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, exercise caution outdoors, and remain alert to changing weather conditions.
• Motorists are urged to drive with extreme care, particularly on exposed routes and high-sided vehicles.
• Beachgoers and coastal users must avoid high-risk shoreline activities and strictly follow all maritime safety warnings.

“Municipal emergency response teams are on high alert to clear fallen trees, remove debris, unblock stormwater infrastructure, and render immediate assistance to affected communities. The City is monitoring the situation closely, and updates will be provided should conditions change,” said eThekwini in a statement.
