Soup kitchen needs donations
Help Christ the King soup kitchen feed families in need.

VOLUNTEER residents need the community’s help to keep feeding people in need more than two decades after a Wentworth soup kitchen was set up.
The charity work, which was started by Edna Burgess at her home, has become a way of life for the women who meet every Thursday morning to prepare food, while engaging in spiritual fellowship before serving hot meals to the community in the afternoon.
According to Wentworth resident, Romany Roberts, hard times have hit many families in the community and the number of people waiting in line for food has increased exponentially, especially among children. “School children stand in the queue for their families. This has been a concern as some kids have actually fainted while waiting,” said Roberts. This has prompted the caring fellowship to hand out sandwiches to the children while they wait.
The soup kitchen runs on donations from businesses and community members. Anyone interested in assisting with donations of vegetables, chicken, rice, oil, meaty bones, soup mix, peanut butter or jam or to assist in any way, may contact Romany Roberts on 084-523-3385.
