Convent housing project stalls
Council is being called to task by ward 66 councillor, Duncan Du Bois for its lack of action in the Donnelly Road housing project.

MORE than a year after the project went through the approval process, the Donnelly Road housing project has yet to see the first brick laid.
In August 2013, the municipality confirmed the upgrade plans were undergoing approval and at a ward 66 war room meeting in February this year, the project was given the go ahead. The KZN Department of Human Settlements planned 128 new units and 15 refurbished units for the former convent building that houses more than 100 people.
“The Donnelly Road housing project is overdue in terms of its reconstruction. It was disclosed that work on the refurbishment of this housing estate would begin in August 2014. To date nothing has happened,” said ward 66 councillor and war room chairman, Duncan Du Bois.
He finds the delay unacceptable. “The place is a shocking mess. For eThekwini Housing, as the owners, it is an indictment in terms of human rights. I make that accusation because eThekwini charges people to stay in that place.
I will be away overseas from 27 September to 22 October. When I return, I should like to have positive responses on these two issues from council,” said Du Bois.
