Ratepayers chairman to step down

Lack of progress from officials leads chairman to decide to step down.

FACING what he believes to be an unending battle against sluggish service delivery, Bluff Ratepayers Association chairman, Ivor Aylward has decided to step down.

“It comes down to making up your mind when you have had enough,” said Aylward. “I love helping the community and doing what I can to make it a better place, but it has become a constant slog – fighting for the smallest of changes that very often don’t materialise.”

Friday, 28 November marks the day this Bluff stalwart steps out of the ring and hangs up his boxing gloves, after many years of fighting for Bluff residents. “There is a lack of service delivery, not only in our community, but throughout Durban. I call for action time and time again, but nothing is done. The officials tasked with looking after our area need to do their jobs and the residents need to stand up and take pride in their own surroundings. The final straw came when yet another Bluff War Room meeting was cancelled due to lack of attendance. Why should I continue to call people to action, if they are unwilling to respond? It is an ongoing battle against the decay of our suburb and we are losing,” he said.

Aylward plans to spend his time with his family and focusing on his small antique collecting and selling business. He thanks all those who have helped him over the years.
