Seniors reap rewards of wellness day

Local senior citizens enjoy a day of pampering and wellness.

THE Bluff’s health and wellness programme, hosted by the South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management (ABM) was a success, with hundreds of elderly residents pampered for the day.

The programme aimed at senior citizens was held in partnership with the Bluff Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Department of Health.

Health of the Nation Training Academy, Jullo Centre, eThekwini Treasury, Sizakala Customer Centre, Department of Health and TAFTA provided assessments and health information to the gathering on Wednesday, 29 October at the Pigeon Club. Tests included blood sugar and pressure tests, eye tests and HIV/Aids testing and counselling and the women were treated to free beauty treatments and pampering from the Cellu-Beauty Spa.

CPF chairman, Carl Knaupf was happy that Bluff senior citizens came out in their numbers to benefit from the information and services on offer.

Speakers were ward 66 councillor, Duncan Du Bois, Bluff Clinic manager, Sindy Ngobese, SASSA’s Deon Reynecke, revenue services’ Zandile Maphanga and Brighton Beach SAP communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux

“You are what you eat. Awareness is also about getting into shape and eating healthily,” said Du Bois. Wentworth resident, Norma McClough was elated that senior citizens were being remembered, valued and empowered.
