After rip current pulls man (25) in at Merebank beach

The body of ‎a man who drowned after going missing in a rip current at Merebank’s Cuttings Beach yesterday (25 December) washed up on the Bluff’s Ansteys Beach ‎on Boxing Day.

“The 25-year-old man from Johannesburg was at the non-swimming beach with friends when he was caught in a rip current,” said Lifesaving SA in a statement.

“The man struggled against the current, then tragically lost his bodyboard. His body disappeared below the surface before rescue services arrived on the scene.”

An unsuccessful search by lifeguards was scheduled to continue on Friday.

Cuttings Beach, where the incident happened, is clearly signposted as an unprotected beach.
