SDB ABM team lauded with awards
SDB ABM is awarded for their service to the community.
THE efforts of the South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management (ABM) team were recognised with four awards at the annual eThekwini Municipality Sizakala customer services unit awards function on Thursday, 11 December.
The ‘Sizakala High Flyers’ awards identify good work and commitment to communities by affiliated departments in the eThekwini area. SDB ABM community development officer, Sheldon Frankish, who worked alongside Clairwood Secondary on a project for the 2013 Sustainability Expo was given the best support personnel award for his work. Sheldon and the pupils built a model of a sustainable house from recyclables within a budgetary framework.
Two awards were given to SDB ABM manager, Eurakha Singh. First, she was awarded the innovation award for developing original projects to address the needs of the communities she serves. Secondly, Singh was awarded the Sizakala customer service unit personality of the year award. This special award is given to a person nominated by the head of the Sizakala unit and her management team.
“One of the criteria for selection for this award is a person who goes about his or her duties willingly and happily with charisma and has a joy to serve. Mrs Singh has certainly served this unit well and has contributed to its growth and development,” said Sizakala customer services unit head, Ntsiki Magwaza.
The SDB ABM as a whole was named best team of the Sizakala unit for their turnaround time, service delivery and backlog elimination and leadership and teamwork showing initiative.
“The aim of the rewards and recognition programme is to encourage and motivate staff to work with dedication and pride; to take their work seriously and to go beyond the call of duty to serve the customers of eThekwini,” said Magwaza.
Speaking about the awards they received, Singh said they are pleased and always give of their best. “We have always worked very hard as team – giving of our best at all times to serve the communities of the SDB. We are pleased our efforts have been noticed and acknowledged by the unit. We have been comfortable under Sizakala and thank the head and the unit for giving us a home for the last four years. We are, however, looking forward to moving on to our own unit with other ABMs in the city. The team pledges to continue serving the SDB community with the same dedication and passion,” she said.
