R39-m for Donnelly Road renovation
Municipality greenlights renovation with funds.

R39-MILLION has been apportioned for the renovation of the Donnelly Road housing project.
Ward 66 councillor, Duncan Du Bois, who has advocated for the renovation of the blighted land for years, said he received a response from eThekwini Municipality’s head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa, confirming the money had been assigned.
In a response to Du Bois’ request for information, Mthethwa said the following: “The project will consist of 128 units once complete and will not be split into separate building phases. The existing units will be renovated and new four-storey high flats will be built.
The project was delayed by issues related to the conservation of the existing convent, which is deemed a heritage building. Therefore, further studies had to be carried out.
The houses will be allocated to the existing tenants and people from wards 66, 67 and 68. The project is currently at an advanced planning stage with key role players, such as the department of human settlements, being involved.”
