Hostel murderer sentenced to 30-years

He was also sentenced to 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

DURBAN Regional Court sentenced a man to 30-years for murder on Thursday, 5 March.

Siyabonga Xulu (20) stabbed a woman at SJ Smith Hostel on 13 December at about 2.30pm.
The woman died at the scene as a result of her injuries. Xulu also stole two cellphones from the scene.
Investigating officer W/O Rico Naidooo had a breakthrough in the case and arrested Xulu at Block F at the hostel on Wednesday, 25 February.

The following day one of the stolen cellphones was recovered in Fuyeni in Empangeni.
A dagger was recovered from a room at the hostel.

Xulu appeared in court and pleaded guilty to murder on Thursday, 5 March. He was sentenced to 30 years for murder and 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances. The sentences will run concurrently. Presiding judge Amhed Maharaj commended W/O Naidoo for his efforts during the investigation.
