Men hospitalised after six metre fall in harbour

The men were working on a steel structure, believed to be a coal storage container, where renovations were being done.

EMERGENCY services have treated four construction workers, who sustained serious injuries after a five to six metre fall at Durban Harbour at about 12pm today.

The men were working on a steel structure, believed to be a coal storage container, where renovations were being done. “According to paramedics on the scene part of the structure appears to have collapsed and the men fell to the ground with the structure,” said Emergency Medical Services media liaison officer, Robert McKenzie.
Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and a local private ambulance service treated and stabilised the patients and transported them to hospitals.

The exact cause and the reason for the partial structure collapse are unknown at this stage and will be investigated.
