BREAKING NEWS: Oil pools in harbour after Mobeni fire

Port authority has contained the oil near Bluff Yacht Club

Still recovering from last week’s oil spill, the harbour and Bluff Yacht Club (BYC) have been hit by another deluge of oil after yesterday’s fire at a cooking oil refinery company in South Coast Road, Mobeni.

The oil flowed down the canals adjacent to the factory in Mobeni and has collected in the harbour near the yacht club.
Booms have been set up to contain the oil in a small area and Transnet Port Authority is on scene to assess the situation.
Shrimp can be seen on the surface of the water, trying to escape the polluted water and birds, including a small family of geese, have retreated inland.

One yachtman has just spent R60,000 renovating his yacht, only to have it damaged by the oil for the second time in a week.
