Rehab patients tour schools with drug awareness show
The show staged in collaboration with East Coast Radio, Light Productions and The Cedars Rehabilitation Centre.
A 60 MINUTE drug awareness show which is touring KZN was presented to pupils at Mowat Park High School on Wednesday, 20 May.
The show staged in collaboration with East Coast Radio, Light Productions and The Cedars Rehabilitation Centre.
Recovering addicts who are being treated at the rehabilitation centre form part of cast.
The production is about the negative effects of drug and alcohol and encourages pupils to avoid alcohol and drug abuse. The hour-long show features Londeka Shabena and Nolwazi Magwaza from East Coast Radio, and AlleyCat (MC Moses).
Annie Mcginn is a councillor at The Cedars Rehabilitation Centre. “Most importantly the show gives the rehab patients a sense of purpose. For the rehabilitation patients the show is about love and service. Their story is used to benefit the pupils as a way to help the community,” she said.
Mowat Park High School’s headgirl Zoliswa Mkhwanazi says the production was informative. “The girls needed the show to be delivered like this. It was better than someone being too serious and just talking about drugs. We could relate to the young actors. Drugs are a big problem,” said Mkhwanazi.
