A STOLEN car was recovered in Wentworth after an automated number plate recognition (ANPR) alert triggered a rapid response from private security personnel and police on August 27.

The alert was generated by the SNIPR ANPR camera network at the Wentworth Hotel after the system detected a white Toyota reportedly linked to a stolen vehicle report.

Security personnel jump into action

Blue Security Tactical and armed response teams were alerted and immediately launched a search of the surrounding area based on the vehicle’s reported location.

The vehicle was subsequently located on Sage Road, where security personnel secured the scene and requested assistance from officers from Brighton Beach police station.

A check on the police database confirmed that the vehicle was still listed as stolen. The vehicle was then taken for further investigation and recovery procedures.

The incident highlights the role of ANPR technology in assisting security companies and police with the detection and recovery of stolen vehicles.

How the ANPR system works

ANPR systems use cameras to automatically capture and analyse vehicle registration numbers, allowing alerts to be generated when a vehicle of interest is detected.

In this case, the technology enabled security personnel to quickly identify the vehicle’s reported location and co-ordinate a response with police.

The recovery also highlights the importance of co-operation between private security companies and law enforcement in responding to vehicle-related crime.

No arrests were reported in connection with the recovery at the time of publishing. The vehicle remains subject to further police investigation and recovery procedures.
