Pilot unscathed in emergency beach landing

Crowd of onlookers gathers after landing.

LIKE a scene from a movie, a pilot made an emergency landing on North Beach on Sunday, 9 August at about 2.30pm and walked away completely unscathed.

It is not known why the 30-year-old pilot was forced to make the dramatic landing on the largely unpopulated beach. Fire fighters and KZN Emergency Medical Services (EMS) paramedics found him standing outside the plane, talking to air traffic control on his mobile phone.

KZN EMS’ advanced life support paramedic determined that other than the initial shock of the incident, the man had not sustained any injuries and he chose not to be taken to hospital.

The paramedics said the pilot was on his way back to the airport following a test flight when he was forced to make the emergency landing.
