The Bluff Dog Club’s director of training (DOT), Christine Macfarlane, has retired after 30-years of service but has left the club in good hands.
“I felt it was my time to step back and pursue other interests, especially now the club has a good team to take it further,” said Macfarlane, who moved to the Bluff in 1970.
The club, which has been in existence for 40 years, moved to the Dutch Club from the Bluff National Park Golf Course nearly 30 years ago and has recently taken up new residence at Glenardle Junior Primary School.
While there is no new DOT, Macfarlane has handed the reigns over to two women who were trained by her. Classes offered include a 10 week basic home obedience training course and rally obedience training, which includes jumps and obstacles courses. They take place from 1pm to 2pm on Saturdays.
“During my tenure I saw many families of pets come and go and I trained up three sets of siblings myself that went through the dog show circuit. I have seen that all breeds can be trained, including pitbulls, given the right training,” said Macfarlane.
