Circuit trip disrupts power supply to multiple substations

According to the municipality, the alternate supply route, Circuit 1, is currently unavailable as it is undergoing planned maintenance.

POWER supply is gradually being restored in some parts of Durban which earlier today (June 3) experienced a massive blackout due to a circuit trip that disrupted power supply to many substations.

The eThekwini Municipality is aware of a power outage affecting several areas following a trip on the Klaarwater–Chatsworth/Woodlands Circuit 2 earlier today.

The circuit trip has resulted in a total loss of supply to the following substations:

  • Mobeni Main Substation
  • Chamberlain Substation
  • Chatsworth Substation

According to the municipality, the alternate supply route, Circuit 1, is currently unavailable as it is undergoing planned maintenance.

Areas possibly affected:

Mobeni South, Montclair, Woodlands Industrial, Yellowwood Park, Merewent, Jacobs, Austerville, and Wentworth West.

The City’s Energy Management Directorate dispatched teams for analysis and is undertaking the necessary restoration work.

Full restoration of supply is anticipated today (June 3), subject to the successful completion of repairs and testing.
