DEAF pupils got the chance to learn about army life in the KZN Signal Unit’s ‘day with the SANDF’ on Friday, 18 September.
Pupils from VN Naik School for the Deaf enjoyed a day with the army and navy along with pupils from Kwasanti Public Secondary School.
The youngsters started the day with a tour of the Durban Naval Station. They were taught about navy procedures and the diving unit showed them the work they do on a daily basis. They were allowed to inspect a navy vessel, the SAS Galeshewe and were taken on a ferry ride around the harbour.
Thereafter, the group made their way to the Bluff Army Base where they got to shoot rifles with the Durban Regiment and learn about what the army does. Accompanied throughout the day by members of the KZN Signal Unit, the group then had lunch and left with many promising to enrol once they left school.
