
DURBAN placed 85th out of 230 cities worldwide in the 2016 Mercer Quality of Living Survey, making it the second best city in Africa.
Port Louis in Mauritius was number one in Africa in position 83, while fellow SA big cities, Cape Town and Johannesburg placed 92nd and 95th respectively. Vienna was the number one country on the list.
“We have worked hard to ensure the quality of life for all residents has improved through expediting service delivery. We have impacted a number of lives through various city-run initiatives. We have also improved amenities for residents and visitors to enjoy as recreational activities are an important aspect of a having a high quality life,” said eThekwini mayor, James Nxumalo.
The annual Mercer survey is based on crime statistics, law enforcement, stability and the country’s relationship with other countries.
