Protestors list logistics park concerns to developers

Local organisation stands against development.

ABOUT 80 local residents gathered outside the former Clairwood Racecourse on Saturday, 12 March to protest against the development of the logistics park.

Addressing the crowd was South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) co-ordinator, Desmond D’Sa, who called for government to step in on their behalf.

The protestors believe the development of the logistics park will increase traffic in the area, posing a danger to motorists and pedestrians. They also believe there will be an increase in air and noise pollution in an already highly polluted area.

Many believe consultation was lacking in the decision to allow the land to be turned into a logistics hub, despite economic development, tourism and environmental affairs MEC Michael Mabuyakhulu reviewing and overturning an appeal made by SDCEA.

A memorandum was handed over to developers, Fortress Income Fund (FIF) with the concerns of the community.
