Robin Hood spreads hope at start of a new term
The aim of this project, which Robin Hood has been running for the past four years, is to inspire hope in the lives of the young children, aged three to 17, who have suffered devastating loss in their young lives.
EACH school term holiday, the Robin Hood Foundation hosts a Hope breakfast for orphaned and vulnerable children from surrounding disadvantaged communities.
Cases are sent to the foundation by request from the Christian social services who work closely in the community with these vulnerable groups.
The aim of this project, which Robin Hood has been running for the past four years, is to inspire hope in the lives of the young children, aged three to 17, who have suffered devastating loss in their young lives. Most have lost parents and are now cared for by an older sibling, aunt, neighbour or their aging gogos. This project sees them taken out of their dire circumstances for a while, allowing them to play, feel the love from their volunteers and just be children.
The day before the start of this new term was a welcome treat and surprise for 40 orphaned and vulnerable children from Shongweni and Ntshognweni on Monday, their cases highlighted through the Christian social services who work tirelessly in the community for the welfare of these children. “Thanks to CHEP, the sponsors of the event, and O&O Café for sponsoring the meal and the venue, these children were so blessed with not one but two brand new school uniforms, a stationery pack, lunchbox, Gogo bag, toiletries box, towel, blanket and so much more,” said Kim Griffith Jones, co-ordinator of the Robin Hood Foundation.
“For these children, almost every day is a struggle so imagine their joy at receiving a brand new school uniform and stationery to start off their new term at school. At each project we’ve hosted in the past, we’ve seen for ourselves what these uniforms mean to the children as once they receive them, all play halts, they do not want to put them down. For them, it’s a reason to go to school, proudly dressed in their new uniforms and equipped for the new term.”
