AN ANONYMOUS tip-off led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man for the possession of 85 capsules of heroin.
The arrest was made on 29 April by Wentworth SAPS; Captain Lawrence Lottering and two other members.
While police were patrolling along Woodville Road in Wentworth, a member of the community told them about a man who was dealing in drugs at a nearby house. The members followed up on the information and found the man at home with his relatives. After explaining the reason for their visit, he agreed to be searched.
Before being searched, the man went into his room where he hid something inside a loose light switch, according to police.
His plan was quickly foiled when the thorough captain noticed that the light was loosened. “He took it apart and saw something concealed inside. After inspecting the packet he found 85 pink and clear coloured capsules which he suspected to be heroin,” said communication officer, Lt Mbuso Gumede. The 29-year-old was arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday, 3 May where R5,000 bail was imposed. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to Westville prison.
The members of the community are urged by police to report any drug activities in the area. “For police to fight the scourge of drugs, we need the community to be the eyes and ears. Drugs are the main cause of misbehaviour of youth, and we need to report drug dealing to police. No name will be given or requested by police when you report any drug related cases in the community. You have the right to request anonymity,” said Lt Gumede.
