Beef burglars strike at robots

The meat was valued at R1,066 and a case of theft out of motor vehicle is been investigated by Montclair SAPS.

MEAT was stolen from the back of a truck by some stealthy criminals at the Edwin Swales and South Coast Road robots on Saturday, 30 April.

A truck driver coming from Oxford on the Bluff only noticed that he had been robbed when a fellow truck driver alerted him that a few men had opened the back doors and took a 18.4kg box of beef while he was stationary at the robot.

He stopped at a nearby garage to check for himself and found the doors unlocked and that the meat was gone. The meat was valued at R1,066 and a case of theft out of motor vehicle is been investigated by Montclair SAPS.

The station’s communication officer, Lt Dereck Vijiam said theft out of of trucks is a growing crime. He warned truck drivers and owners to take extra steps in securing their vehicles and to be more vigilant on the roads, especially while stationary at robots.
