According to the municipality, fraudsters are posing as officials and demanding payment for installation. However, installation is free and the restrictors are not for sale.
In excess of 500,000 houses in eThekwini will have restrictors installed in order to reduce water usage during the drought.
Municipal officials and contracted companies will not need to enter houses to do the installation; they will connect the restrictors at a water meter.
Report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
