WWI prize winners named at 55th birthday party
Money board and raffle prizes were drawn and a successful morning closed with the WI prayer.
PRESIDENT of Woodlands Women’s Institute (WWI), Maureen Lavis welcomed members, their guests as well as members of sister institutes, namely Bushlands, Stainbank and Yellowwood Park evening to their 55th birthday party and prize-giving on Friday, 6 May.
Tables decorated in blue, silver and white with blue and silver ribbons tied to all the trophies set the scene for their celebrations which followed the reciting of the Mary Stewart Collect.
Gifts of appreciation were given to committee members, convenors and other members who help out and most importantly the two tea hostesses, Rose Simpkin and Priscilla Coskey.
The awarding of prizes for competition work done during the past year was held, as members eagerly waited to see who would walk away with the trophies for top marks in each of the 11 categories together with small monetary prizes for first, second and third places. Well done to all the winners and to everyone who enters the monthly competitions.
WWI’s longstanding member Phyllis Parsonage had the honour of cutting the beautifully iced and decorated birthday cake made by talented member Martie Caldwell, who topped the cake with exquisitely crafted flowers made of icing. After tea, entertainment was by Raymond Ludick who played guitar and took everyone on a journey around the world as he sang songs and told jokes from several countries.

Woodlands WI holds its next meeting on Friday, 3 June at the Montclair Recreation Hall, 191 Wood Road, Montclair at 9am for 9.30am and welcomes prospective new members.
