[PHOTOS] Landslide damage poses danger
At least one house sits in a precarious position
TWO weeks on and little has changed at the site of the King’s Rest Road landslide.
Red and white tape tied around trees is the only safety measure set up to secure the 50-metre high chasm. Despite this, when the Sun visited, people were seen lifting the tape and walking past the landslide, continuing along this popular pathway.
At least one house sits in a precarious position as stability of the bank remains undetermined. The railway tracks below are covered in sand and remain unusable, forcing locals to find other means of transport.
This landslide calls into question the stability of the entire Malborough Park-based embankment. A little more than two years ago, a substantial landslide less than a kilometre away sent parts of Chipstead Avenue onto the tracks below, cut off through access on the road and put homes at risk. It was three months before that bank was repaired and rehabilitated.
No response has been received from the municipality regarding a time frame for action on the King’s Rest landslide.
