Hijacker shot and wounded in police shoot-out

We appeal to the community to continue giving us information about any wanted suspects as these criminals are in our community.

A HIJACKER was shot and wounded in a shoot-out between five suspects and Montclair police yesterday afternoon, 20 September.

K9 unit and Montclair SAPS were assisted by provincial highway patrol unit members in conducting crime prevention duties to prevent against hijackings and serious crimes in the area. They received information about a stolen vehicle parked in a Montclair premises. Police went to the place where the vehicle was parked and found it.
The officers proceeded into the premises and found five men aged between 21 and 34. When the men ran, the officers gave chase. The hijackers fired shots at the police who returned fire. One of the criminals were shot and the rest were arrested.

An unlicensed firearm was recovered. On further investigation, it appeared that the recovered vehicle had been hijacked at Umbilo area on Monday.”The police will work harder to see whether these arrested men will not be linked to other hijackings in Durban and surrounding areas. The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to check if it was not used in any other crimes in the province. We appeal to the community to continue giving us information about any wanted suspects as these criminals are in our community. We must not hide them but expose them to the police,” said Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.
