UPDATE: Cash in transit accused appear in court

The accused, aged 27 and 34 years old are facing charges of cash in transit robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm.

TWO men arrested for the cash in transit robbery in Montclair on Sunday, 25 September appeared at the Durban Magistrates Court today, 5 October.

The accused, aged 27 and 34 years old are facing charges of cash in transit robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm.

While two security guards in a G4S security van were stationary at the  Blamey Road robots in Montclair, two men jumped in the back of the security vehicle and pointed firearms at the security guard. The driver continued on his route without knowledge of what was happening at the back. With guns still pointed at the guard’s face, the men demanded he hand over his firearms and tell the driver to open a safe.

The criminals loaded their bags with cash and waited for the driver to stop the vehicle so they could make their getaway. Hawks members were alerted and a case of cash in transit robbery was opened at Montclair SAPS. “Members left no stone unturned in their investigation and the two were arrested. Cash amounting to R376 220 and a 9mm pistol were recovered from the accused. They were remanded in custody and the case was postponed to Friday, 14 October for a bail application,” said Hawks media liaison, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo.
