IT was a busy morning for Bluff Community Orientated Policing (COP) officers who responded to multiple housebreakings reported in the early hours of Friday, 18 November.
At about 1am, Blue Security received a report of a housebreaking in progress in Pearce Road on the Bluff. They in turn relayed the message to COP.
A home owner had seen a man wearing black overalls, carrying a crowbar, who fled when he realised he had been seen.
COP and Blue Security officers searched of the area in the hopes of finding the man, when COP’s Louis van Ryneveld saw two others on a nearby stairway. He called for back-up and Blue Security response officer Riaan Botha responded.
The two men were found with housebreaking tools and copper plates in their possession and were taken into custody by Brighton Beach SAPS officers who responded to a call from COP.
A report came through on the COP and Bluff Emergency Safety and Security (BESS) centre WhatsApp alert group that items had been stolen from the granny flat at the Pearce Road house.
A laptop and a pair of takkies had been taken from the flat but the shoes were recovered nearby.
While the search for the housebreaker continued, a patrolling Umlazi K9 unit vehicle came across two men on Bluff Road near the water tower. The men raced away while being questioned and with the help of the Blue Security and COP officers, a search was launched but was unsuccessful
During this time another report of a housebreaking came in, this time in Bayview Road.
The responding officers saw a white Corsa bakkie speeding along Bluff Road with the canopy open, heading towards Solomon Mahlangu Drive (Edwin Swales VC). They suspected it might have been involved in the housebreaking, however, they were unable to stop the car.
COP urges residents to join the alert group, backed by COP, Blue Security, Rescue Care and United Force Security. To join send a WhatsApp message or SMS with your name to 076-013-0249.
