Learning kit donation to aid pupils’ cognitive skills
TWENTY South Durban Basin schools were given educational assistance, thanks to the SDB Area Based Management (AMB) office on Wednesday, 16 November.
The SDB ABM recognises the importance for early intervention in addressing the learning and developmental gaps of young children. At the Enchanted Gardens, the team, along with the office of the deputy city manager, SA Lego and Hands on Technologies handed over Lego kits to the schools.
“Many of the children within the SDB experience huge challenges, aggravated by poverty and disease. The ECD programme exists to encourage a firm foundation of stability for young children to allow them to perform and excel academically in various stages of their life. Hence preparing them adequately from an early age and to provide a sound basis for learning, developmental skills, knowledge, personal competence and confidence,” read a statement by the SDB ABM.
Hands on Technologies’ Dianne Wallace was honoured to be part of the campaign.
“We feel honoured to be handing over these kits to the underprivileged ECD schools in the SDB as it is going to make a huge difference in each and every child’s life. I have trained the ECD practitioners on how to use these kits in their centre. They are going to have so much fun playing with the Lego as well as building their cognitive skills,” she said.
SDB ABM precinct co-ordinator, Anitha Govender thanked SA Lego and Hands on Technologies for sponsoring the kits.
“The Lego kits will give these children the ability to enhance their cognitive learning abilities. Children are our future leaders in our communities. Investing in their future is a powerful building block in ensuring a prosperous nation,” said Govender.
