THE case of an allegedly missing child and a mother who refuses to talk to police has Bluffites baffled.
An alert went out on emergency WhatsApp groups yesterday afternoon, 7 December that a child had been taken from his pram by a man on the corner of Marshall and Assembly roads.
According to a statement on Facebook by Brighton Beach SAP media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, the woman told police she had been walking her two-year-old son in a pram when he was snatched by a man in maroon clothes.
Many people took to the streets to search for the young boy and were left frustrated and disappointed when their efforts proved fruitless.
“The police officer in attendance dropped the mother off at a house situated along Ettrick Avenue, to source a current photo of her child. She indicated she would phone police upon sourcing a photo but she never phoned the police officer back.”
When the police returned to the Ettrick Avenue home, the woman was not there. After several failed attempts at calling the woman, a man finally answered the phone and the officer was able to speak to the woman. She said she no longer wanted to speak to the police and ended the call.
Many people have taken to Facebook to question why the mother might be refusing to talk to the police. Some question whether the child was indeed taken or conversely, if the mother has been threatened to keep quiet.
The search for the woman is ongoing.
“The reason for the mother’s lack of co-operation with police in opening a criminal investigation into the alleged kidnapping of her baby boy has not yet been determined.”
