WDF hosts festive party for 600
ABOUT 600 people were treated to a festive Christmas party at the Austerville Community Hall on Thursday, 8 December, courtesy of the Wentworth Development Forum (WDF).
The annual Christmas function caters to senior citizens and mentally handicapped and disabled people in Wentworth.
Entertainment was provided by Austerville, Phoenix and Sherwood halfway houses, Merebank, Umbilo and Azalea residents, Tafta Revellers and Enduduzweni Centre for the Disabled.
“Every year WDF takes pride in hosting a Christmas party for many who are often forgotten and shunned by society. It is a privilege and an honour to give back to our communities; to see smiling faces; to see joy and happiness manifested among everyone. Around these Christmas tables one was able to forget about inequality, sickness and loneliness, for one day at least. This is a miracle of being helpful. Each year we are able to raise funds and bring delight and contentment into the hearts of many who might not have a family to share this love and joy,” said WDF member, Desmond D’Sa
“Being able to share a simple gift, food, music and above all, companionship, joyfulness and attention to everyone are the ‘requirements’ of a beautiful party. The miracle is that members from different backgrounds and faiths found their place at the table. The joy that fills our hearts when we serve is a great reward.”
