An unnamed Metro Police woman's face shows the relief felt by Durbanites after Siwaphiwe Mbambo was found unharmed just after 1am this morning.
There is huge relief this morning at news that missing one-month-old baby, Siwaphiwe Mbambo has been found unharmed.
One man was arrested and the baby retrieved from a car at the Marianhill toll plaza in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, 12 March).
Lt Col Thulani Zwane confirmed the vehicle had been intercepted at the toll plaza at about 1am.
He thanked SAPS, emergency services and everyone who commited their time and efforts to help find the baby.
The infant’s abduction sparked massive public concern this week. News of the crime made international headlines, when two armed hijackers drove off with the white Toyota Yaris belonging to Siwaphiwe’s mother, Sibongile with the one-month-old still inside. Sibongile and her eight-year-old son had been accosted outside the former Game City shopping centre in Durban CBD just after 11am on Friday.
The Yaris was later found abandoned in Montclair’s Moody Crescent on Friday afternoon after a huge police search was launched, including a helicopter search.
