Bluff police task team nabs wanted fuel station bandit

Warrants of arrests were outstanding for the wanted man, for cases of murder, attempted murder, house robbery and theft

ONE of KZN’s most wanted criminals has been collared by Brighton Beach police members.

The 24-year-old Ayanda Brian Jaca and his team who had been terrorising fuel stations throughout the Durban, South and North Coast regions for months, was arrested by Brighton Beach SAPS task team members Constables Sduduzo Makhaye and Thokozani Malevu on Sunday, 19 March in Umlazi.

Jaca made his first appearance in Durban regional court on Wednesday, 22 March. During his appearance, he abandoned any future bail application possibilities. He will re-appear in court on Monday, 27 March with four of his accomplices who were apprehended late last year. The group are currently facing eight charges of business robberies committed at fuel stations within the Brighton Beach, Hillcrest, Bellair, Pinetown and Inchanga policing precincts.

Jaca also had outstanding warrant of arrests issued against him on cases ranging from murder, attempted murder, house robbery, MITP, as well as two cases of theft within the Durban Central policing precincts.

“Although Ayanda has been apprehended, fuel station owners and staff should remain vigilant. Some members of Ayanda’s group have created splinter groups and continue to prey on vulnerable businesses,” said Warrant Officer Gerhard Grobler who is also investigating various other robberies throughout the greater Durban area, which are expected to be linked back to Jaca’s group.
