Garden club’s ranks swell with new members
We hope to implement the tips Margaret gave members when she demonstrated arranging flowers for competitions.
NATALIA Garden Club vice president Nora Brown opened the May meeting with a prayer and a warm welcome to everyone present.
With the president and other members down with influenza, the club wished them a return to good health soon.
The club was pleased to welcome three new members namely Theresa Adams, Judy Henry and Leanne Richards.
Letitia van Zyl, Pat Watkins, Raymond Wilkinson, Mlemle Williams, Yusiml Zayas, Monica Auguste and Adle Backhouse were asked to provide snacks for the next meeting on Thursday, 8 June.
The garden club will miss faithful and longstanding member, Marie Pistorious who will be relocating to the Cape soon.
Members thoroughly enjoyed the excursion to lllovo Nursery on Thursday, 4 May.
The competitions for this month include the following six sections;
- Decorative (a photo frame decorated with shells);
- cultural (a small succulent garden);
- best bloom or spray;
- an orchid (pot plant);
- from my garden.
At the May meeting Margaret Everett gave members advice on the song title for the decorative competition. The flowers and not the accessories must dominate the flower arrangement.
The club hopes to implement the tips Margaret gave members when she demonstrated arranging flowers for competitions.
Congratulations go to members June Richards, Jeanne Buitendag and Lynne Gillman who celebrate their birthdays this month.
Members look forward to the talk by passionate photographer Warren Dick at the next meeting. The object of the club is to constantly promote and encourage the introduction and cultivation of plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables, and to advance and promote the art of gardening and floral decoration.
