Chad’s Spanish soccer dream in the balance

Help Chad take flight.

BLUFF soccer star, Chad Kilroe is chasing his dreams all the way to Spain.

The 17-year-old home-schooled pupil has been selected as part of a team flying to Spain for a 10-day soccer camp in October with the Durban North Sports Academy.

Chad started playing soccer in grade 3 or 4. After he asked his dad for a ball, his passion just took off from there. “I love soccer just because of the fun of it,” he said.

Since he first kicked the ball he has played for many local teams, including Fynnlands and Cherrians.

His favourite position is striker and he names all soccer strikers as his idols, particularly Romelu Lukaku, who he fashions his technique after.

“I was surprised and shocked when I was offered the chance to go on the camp. I have never been overseas before. I hope to improve my skills while I am there and learn from professionals.”

But Chad has a long way to go before he steps onto the plane. He needs to raise R44,000 for the trip and with the help of his mother, Natasha Lewis, he has already help a slew of fundraising events to finance his trip. They call on anyone willing to help his achieve his dream to get involved.

His determination sees this future soccer star take to the field daily for training.

Chad hopes to coach soccer when he finishes his studies and plans on studying in a sports-related field. When not on the soccer pitch, he also enjoys bodyboarding.
