Bluff public called on to reimagine Bluff showgrounds
The showgrounds can play an integral role in the Bluff's economic node
THE Bluff showgrounds is due for some much-needed TLC and revitalisation, according to ward 66 councillor, JP Prinsloo.
In its glory days, the showgrounds was the centrepiece of the community, with mardi gras shows and events which attracted locals and people from across the city.
In recent years, however, it has stood empty and is misused for criminal activities.

Cllr Prinsloo who believes the showgrounds can play an integral role in the Bluff’s economic node, believes this provides “more impetus to renovate this area and restore it to fruitful use”.
“It will help create an environment to entertain the youth of the Bluff. It will be the perfect place to host community events to create social and community cohesion. The rejuvenation of the showgrounds will address issues related to visual appearance and the underuse of the space,” said Cllr Prinsloo.
It will also create a link or bridge between the shopping node, the nearby Eco Park and Van Riebieeck Park, be utilised as an educational area and it could bring about environmental awareness as well, while establishing a healthy, sustainable space.
