Countdown looms as Wentworth Angels face loss of house
A 14 day deadline was given to raise the R900,000 need to save the home
WENTWORTH Angels is daunted by the future, since the house it has been operating from is being sold.
The non-profit organisation has been given 14 days to raise R900,000 to save the home.
The house, which is home to destitute and needy families in Wentworth, was put up for sale for R900,000 by the owners despite founder of Wentworth Angels, Tracey Williams making monthly rent payments and squashing the arrears of R48,000 paid off by local company DSES. The house was also revamped by the Linderboom family but now, should it be sold, all the effort that has gone into saving it will have been wasted.

“We were given 14 days to raise R900,000 to save our home and we have put it out there to the community to help us through donations,” said Tracey. “It has been a traumatising and stressful week for the children who live here. Since last Tuesday, strangers have come in and out, claiming to view the house. This has left the children confused as I was not given enough information to explain to them what is happening,” she said.

Avid supporter of the home, Davonne Swartz has issued a plea on social media, asking for residents to support the drive to keep the house for the Wentworth Angels’ use.

Davonne, who has actively supported Wentworth Angels, says they are not just children who need help, but individuals who are unique and special. “If you have to see the children who live there, you will learn that they need this home, They see Tracey as a mother and she treats them with great love and care. For them this is a home. The community should band together and save it. It will be a great blessing,” he added.
Davonne’s social media post urged local residents and businesses to donate, with a calculation that breaks down the cost for individual donors, with less needed from each person if more people gave. “Help us reach the R900,000 goal. If 5,000 people each donate, they would need to provide just R180, 4,000 people would each be required to give R230 each, and so on,” explained Davonne.
“This home houses children who have nowhere to go, elderly that need a place to stay, mothers with babies that have no home,” said Swartz.
With the deadline looming, Tracey is confident their goal will be reached. “Wentworth Angels has always been my vision as an active part of the community. We challenge all local businesses to help us buy this home.”
