
THREE Merebank flats were badly damaged by a fire this morning (Thursday, 5 April).
Wentworth SAPS and other emergency services rushed to the scene where they found the double storey building on fire.
“The occupants of the flat 134, a mother, her 12-year-old daughter and a three-month-old baby, as well as a security officer on duty and a cleaner were all treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics,” said Wentworth SAPS spokesman, Capt Mbuso Gumede.

According to Garrith Jamieson, the fire was extinguished at about 11am and five people were treated for injuries.
The building’s managing agent, Mr Lockhat told police no-one was unaccounted for from the affected flats and he would not comment on the cause of the fire.
