Wentworth police recover hijacked car, arrest two in Quality Street

It was discovered that the vehicle used had been hijacked earlier in the month

THE use of false number plates on a hijacked vehicle led to the arrest of two men aged 24 and 28 years on Friday, 22 June in Quality Street, Jacobs.
Wentworth SAPS social crime prevention unit members received information about a blue BMW 320i which was suspected to be involved in housebreakings around the Brighton Beach and Wentworth areas.
“The officers noticed a vehicle fitting the description along Quality Street with the same registration given to them.

They stopped and searched the vehicle and its occupants,” said Wentworth SAPS spokesman, Capt Mbuso Gumede.
A different number plate was found on the front passenger seat. When police checked the number plate on the vehicle, they found it did not match the license disc. “It was discovered that the vehicle used had been hijacked earlier in the month,” added Cpt Gumede.

The BMW 320i which was recovered in Quality Street by Wentworth SAPS. It had been hijacked in the last month.

The duo were charged for possession of suspected stolen property and defeating the ends of justice for trying to hide the vehicle keys at the police station, pretending it was lost.
The two appeared in Durban court on Monday, 25 June.
