Ethan’s tail-wagging dog food donation drive amasses more than half a ton
Ethan Backhouse gave 293kgs of food to Project Dog while 250kgs went to Bark Angel.
EAGER do-gooder and 58th Durban Air Scouts Cub, Ethan Backhouse has put his love for animals to good use, by far exceeding his goal to collect 100kg of dog and puppy food for Project Dog.
The 10-year-old Brighton Beach Senior Primary pupil managed to raise more than half a ton instead, with a total of 543kg of dog and puppy food being amassed towards the good cause.
Because of the surplus of dog food collected, Ethan decided to split the donations between non-profits Bark Angel on the Bluff and Project Dog. He gave 293kgs of food to Project Dog while 250kgs went to Bark Angel.

Now that he has fulfilled his goal, he can finally receive the Leaping Wolf Badge, the highest accolade among Cubs while also achieving his overarching goal of helping animals and organisations which look after them.
He thanked all those who sponsored towards his project including family, friends, Yellowwood Park Women’s Institute, Justice Kennels Training and Montego, as well as the Bluff and Yellowwood Park, Woodhaven communities.
