Business breakfast urges partnerships with Wentworth centre
Large businesses that operate locally were targeted at a business linkage breakfast, held at the Blue Roof Life Space in Wentworth.

South Durban Basin Area Based Management (SDB ABM) partnered with Blue Roof Life Space and Zoe Life in Wentworth to host a business linkage breakfast on Wednesday, 23 January.
Large businesses that operate locally were targeted.
The business breakfast was well represented by government, with about 10 local businesses present. Attendees were taken on a tour of the Blue Roof state-of-the-art career centre and they witnessed the launch of the newly established youth kitchen which will offer hospitality training for young people.

Dr Stephanie Thomas, director of Zoe Life, shared with the attendees the oversight role it plays through its social and health programmes at the Blue Roof Life Space. She encouraged businesses to come on board as potential partners. Director of the Blue Roof Space Tom Butterworth outlined the centre’s work, highlighting programmes they run and possible partnership opportunities. According to Butterworth, the Blue Roof offers health and wellness programmes, clinic treatments, counselling, dance lessons, art classes and a range of other activities.
The career centre uses creative technology. One of the greatest challenges experienced in its first year of operation was getting learners to the centre. The SDB ABM assisted to get feet through the door by transporting 10 schools and a total of 3,080 pupils to the centre. Other partners in this project were Sapref and the Department of Education.
Senior manager SDB ABM Eurakha Singh thanked the Blue Roof for the opportunity to work them and to make an impact on the lives of young local people. Her message to potential partners was that: “Partnerships do not have to be complicated and don’t even have to involve the exchange of cash. I have found the simpler a partnership is, the better it works”. She added that another similar event will be held in May. Businesses who are keen in engaging in partnerships should contact the SDB ABM office on 031-322-8400.
