Show some love at fundraising dance

The Wentworth Arts and Culture Organisation is continuing their mission to keep their doors open despite the odds against them and the many challenges they face.

On Friday, 22 February, at 7pm, the organisation will host a Valentine’s fundraising dance at Fairvale High School hall in Wentworth for their Dance Movement project.

The evening will include raffles, prize giveaways for lucky audience members and a performance from their 72 dance students who are all holding thumbs for the success of this initiative for their dance school’s survival. “I have been in the programme for 11 years now and this has not only developed my skills as a dancer and artist but has also afforded many opportunities for me like representing my country overseas four times and giving me employment as a full-time dancer and working artist,” said professional dancer Sherwin Green.

Another dance professional, Martinique Palmer who has been with Dance Movement for 12 years said that this project is a beacon of hope in giving disadvantaged youth an opportunity to explore the arts which also keeps them occupied and not wondering the streets getting into trouble with drugs.

The community is urged to support this initiative and the committee is still appealing to the South Durban Basin businesses to sponsor the non- profit organisation that has done sterling work for the youth. All proceeds will go towards the Dance Movement project youth, disabled, elderly dance programmes and their dancers representing South Africa at the UDO championship Street dance competition during August in England.
