Bluff road cracks set to be sealed

A road crack sealing contract has been awarded by the city's roads and stormwater maintenance department (RSWM) to manage and maintain multiple roads across the Bluff.

A ROAD crack sealing contract has been awarded by the city’s roads and stormwater maintenance department (RSWM) to manage and maintain multiple roads across the Bluff.  The contract is aimed at increasing the life expectancy of roads that currently do not appear on the city’s pavement management system (PMS).

“Six local Bluff labour workers have been appointed to work on the contract. The entire Ethekwini road network is assessed every second year and a PMS list is generated for implementation. The road rehabilitation branch only undertakes projects that feature in the PMS, as it prioritises roads for implementation,” explained ward 66 councillor JP Prinsloo.

Six local Bluff labour workers have been appointed to work on the road crack sealing contract put in place by the Department of Roads and Stormwater Maintenance Department (RSWM).

The team started crack sealing along Old Mission Road on Monday, 4 March. According to Cllr Prinsloo, Bluff Road, Island View Road, Cherwell Road and Armstrong Road will be covered by the crack sealing contract.

The current PMS list will run until June 2020 and thereafter a new road list may be implemented. Prinsloo said he has written to the roads provision team to include Old Mission and Beacon roads in Grosvenor and Frederick Avenue and Wylie Road in Fynnlands on the upcoming PMS.

If residents would like their roads to be assessed and included in the current crack sealing contract, email the street name to bluffservicedelivery@gmail.com and cc ward66@ethekwini.org.
