Workshop plans to help Bluff co-operatives

A DEVELOPMENT workshop is being held to develop and empower local Bluff co-operatives on Friday, 29 March at the Bluff National Park Golf Course on Club Drive from 10am to 1pm.
The workshop is a joint effort between the Bluff ward councillor’s office, ward 66 committee, business support, tourism and marketing unit and Nedbank.

In its most basic form, a co-operative is referred to as an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic and social needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise organised and operated on co-operative principles.
“Co-operatives play a major role in economic and community development, as such the municipality seeks to identify gaps where co-operatives can be better capacitated. A series of business development workshops and training sessions are held across the city to capacitate ward-based co-operatives to fulfil this economic role. Small, medium and micro enterprises are vital contributors to the health of the Bluff economy and offer a diversity of opportunities. They boost productivity, increase competition and create employment and revitalise our communities,” explained ward 66 councillor JP Prinsloo.

The information shared during the workshop will pertain to the establishment of a co-operative, developing business and marketing tools, business compliance and business finance. The workshop will cover co-operative development, compliance with supply chain management and financial advice in the creation of a co-operatives and community public-private partnerships.

“The workshop aims to improve co-operatives, ensuring improvement of the quality of services or products rendered, sustained income generation, job creation and competitiveness. It will position the co-operatives to take advantage of the opportunities emerging in local, provincial, national, continental and global markets. We encourage all ward 66 small businesses and residents to take advantages of the planned workshop,” said Prinsloo.
