Tafta residents pampered on #MandelaDay
Tafta opened its doors to several corporates, individuals, retail businesses and families who wished to serve their 67 minutes for Mandela at Tafta homes on Mandela Day.
THE senior citizens of The Association for the Aged’s (Tafta) John Dunn House in Wentworth received their fair share of spoils on Mandela Day, Thursday, 18 July.
Tafta opened its doors to several small and large corporates, individuals, retail businesses and families who wished to serve their 67 minutes for Mandela at Tafta homes on Mandela Day. The elders of John Dunn House were treated to a birthday morning with cake and tea, food hampers, and a lunch sponsored by various businesses and organisations.

Shell pledged to hand out hampers to elders of Tafta’s John Dunn House. Caroline Peters of Shell said: “On behalf of Shell, we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for affording us the opportunity to spend our Madiba Day with the lovely people of Tafta. Meeting the men and women residing here has essentially raised our awareness of the additional care and efforts required to maintain the operations of the establishment. We will definitely visit again to volunteer and assist where we can.”
“It’s important that such days are acknowledged as they are not only a reminder of our rich history but also afford our elders the opportunity to interact with people from outside. At John Dunn House we were very fortunate to get a lot of people and sponsors from Sapref, Food for Life, Better Bond and Shell, who came into the home to spoil and spend time with our elders. A big thanks to members of the community and our sponsors for supporting John Dunn House. Without all these people we wouldn’t be able to do all that we do to care for our elders,” said Tafta area manager Charnete Fouche.
Tafta homes remain open for the entire month of July to those who may have missed their opportunity to serve this Mandela Day. If you would like to participate in any of Tafta’s Mandela Month initiatives, contact Pranisha Beharie on 031 332 3721 or email her on pranisha@tafta.org.za.
