Quins derail Railways in T20 run fest
This coming Sunday, 13 October, the first team play their final group T20 match against Lindelani

Harlequins Cricket Club teams played five league matches during the course of the previous weekend.
The first team travelled to Crawford College to take on Railways from Tongaat in a T20 group match on Sunday morning, 6 October. Sheldon Spindler played out an immaculate innings in the opening berth, striking the boundary on 14 occasions with great all round shot selection executed with good balance on impeccable timing being undefeated at the conclusion of the innings with 83 runs. George Bronkhorst scored 23 runs off just 17 deliveries and Fayaz Safri was at his best scoring 35 runs in an enterprising innings. Brandon de Meillon was undefeated with 15 runs. Quins scored 170 runs in 20 overs losing three wickets.
Quins’ bowlers performed admirably against a Railways team whose composition seemed very different to the teams which Quins last versed during the 2017/ 18 season. Best bowler for Quins was quickie Kevin Kettle who captured two wickets for 20 runs off four overs. Right arm medium paced bowler off cut bowler, Mohamed Patel, was equally up to the task on capturing two wickets for 20 runs off three overs. Both the aforementioned were instrumental in removing the top five in the railways batting line-up exposing a very week lower middle order who were unable to surpass the set target, falling 11 runs short, losing five wickets during their unsuccessful endeavour. Despite winning this match, the Quins team is not likely to go through to the semi-finals on Sunday, 20 October, due to last weekend’s loss to Topham.
Harlequins’ second side played a 40 over league match against Crimson at Harlequins on Sunday afternoon, 6 October. Crimson 2 accrued 155 runs for seven wickets. Medium paced seamer, Theuns Jacobs, was the most successful bowler in taking three Crimson wickets for 27 runs in seven overs. Right arm orthodox slow bowler, Eric Cavanagh, captured two wickets for 28 runs in eight overs. Despite not dislodging any opposition batsman fast bowler, Tyler Jordan, delivered with refreshing vigour during his eight over spell conceding 30 runs. In response Quins middle order batsmen all contributed with the required intensity. Seth Overweg managed 29 runs, Coetzee de Villiers top scored with 52 runs and Kalvin Venter was not out with 32 runs when Quins 2 surpassed the required total in the 22nd over, losing just four wickets in the process.
This coming Sunday, 13 October, the first team play their final group T20 match against Lindelani at John Dory Drive in the morning from 9am, the second team verse Umlazi at Comtech from 1pm, in a 40 over league encounter.
The third team challenge Newlands 3 in a 30 over match at Harlequins 1 from 1.30 pm. The fourth eleven play UKZN 3 at Harlequins 2 and the sixth team are scheduled to take on Pinetown 4 at Harlequins 2 from 1.30pm, however this match will possibly be rescheduled to be played at the sixth teams preferred venue at Lt King Park, Fynnland, dependant on the progress of the consolidation of the surface from the recent top dressing of the cricket outfield.
