A NAIL biting, action-packed and high spirited game of soccer was held at Ogle Road Sports Grounds on Sunday, 12 January.
The match was scheduled for 1pm but didn’t start until 3pm due to the scorching sun making it nearly impossible to play on the field. Two visiting teams went head to head at the Wentworth field in a friendly game.
The crimson Scorpion Ladies’ FC from Verulam took on Mayville’s very own women in blue, Sasa Club FC.

A few minutes into the game, the referee made it known that he was not going to tolerate any wrongdoing in the game. This infuriated a member of management in the Sasa Club who then got banned from the premises. After the glitches were ironed out, it was game on.
At kick-off, it was clear to see that either team was not going to back down without a fight, with players on beat and quick at their feet. Just three minutes into the game, Scorpion were awarded a free-kick which they put into good use and scored their first goal.
Silly blunders made at the goal post cost Sasa numerous scoring opportunities, adding to the coaches and supporters’ frustrations.
The Scorpions pressed on and secured another goal just in time before the half time whistle. Resulting in a 2-0 scoreboard by half time.
The game’s second half was even more competitive with higher stakes for Sasa as they were pushing nil for their team. Brilliant defences were showcased by both teams who kept each other on their toes.
In the end, the odds were in the Verulam team’s favour with the final score being 4-0 in favour of Scorpion Ladies’ FC.
